Sword Belt

One of my current projects is to make a new sword belt. The one I've been using is good, but it is chrome tanned leather instead of vegetable tanned and it is a bit lighter weight than I would prefer, especially since I'm planning on using it to hold a sword more often.

The new sword belt will be 7/8 ounce leather with the hanger portion being made of two layers of 4/5 ounce leather stitched together.

Down to the home stretch on Fred's doublet. All there is left to do is add the buttonholes and attach the buttons.

Embroidered Bag

One of the projects I had hoped to get done for the Gardiner's Company Store at Holiday Fair was an embroidered bag (or several bags). I hadn't got the knack of the embroidery stitches in time to get it done, but I made some progress on the first one today. The outline is done with a reverse chain stitch, and the fill is done with a detached buttonhole stitch.

Snapsack

While I have a golf case for my gear, I never really use it unless I'm flying. Seeing them all lined up at events is one of my personal pet peeves. The easy answer is to cover them with a blanket, but they also take up a fair amount of space to transport. When I was at Jamestown, Don mentioned to me that a snapsack is a good, period appropriate way to carry gear.

Felt Hat

Several years ago, I received a felt hat blank. I used it as was for a while, then left it at an event. While I did get it back, the conditions it had been stored in made killed any shape that it had.  Using a suggestion from Don at Jamestown I used a flowerpot as a block to reshape it. The hat is coming along nicely, and the last big thing to do is to attach the trim around the edge. Unfortunately, the silk ribbon I bought at Pennsic from Reconstructing History isn't long enough, so I'm going to have to order some more at some point before I can finish it.
