One of my current projects is to make a new sword belt. The one I've been using is good, but it is chrome tanned leather instead of vegetable tanned and it is a bit lighter weight than I would prefer, especially since I'm planning on using it to hold a sword more often.
The new sword belt will be 7/8 ounce leather with the hanger portion being made of two layers of 4/5 ounce leather stitched together.
Currently the strips for the belt and stabilizing strip are cut with the edges beveled and some edges slicked. Both layers of the hanger are cut out, with the top layer having the hanger strips attached as one piece.
The hardware is going to be the from Darkwood Armory. They have two different sets, but I prefer the hearts style. The decoration for this piece is going to be fairly simple. There are two cutouts in the hanger and I'll be doing saddle stitches along the outer edge of the hanger and the cutouts in the hanger. The next sword belt I make is going to be much more ornate, but that needs to wait until several other projects get done.
Here is a progress picture of the hanger to this point.
